Record of volume and value for Iran pistachio exports.
Iran is the first world producer of pistachio and its exports income will reach 1,5 billion dollars this year, indicated the Agricultural Commission of Iran Chamber of Commerce Industries and Mines (ICCIM).
Iran leads the world production with 180.000 tons of pistachio, followed by United States with 165.000 tons and Turkey, Syria, Italy and Greece.
The main markets for the Iranian pistachio are China, Russia and India.
The Chinese are the biggest consumers with 80.000 tons a year, followed by the Americans with 45.000 tons.
Russia with a15.000 tons consumption and India with10.000 tons arrive in the third and fourth places.
The area under pistachio cultivation has increased to 450,000 hectares recently from 50,000 in 1979.
