Orange producers from the La Yarada-Los Palos district of the Tacna department joined forces to gain access for their product to the Chilean market.
1,053 small local producers participated in 50 field schools to improve their cultivation techniques.
Naliana Rojas Claros, the facilitator of the Regional Agency for the Promotion of Innovation and Development, indicated that they finance market and pest studies concerning orange crops, which is essential for Tacna to be included in the export plan of Peruvian citrus to Chile.
To export to Chile, Tacna is required to be included in that plan, which currently only includes Lima and Ica. Senasa and the Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG Chile), jointly develop the list of products that meet the export requirements.
Upon meeting all the requirements, farmers in Tacna could start exporting to Chile in 2023, with more than 3,000 kilos of production per hectare.
