Asparagus -22.3% with 19 million AUD ($14.4 million). Only carrots recorded a positive variation with a turnover of 100 million AUD ($76.2 million) or + 7.1% compared to 2019.
According to Michael Coote, Managing Director of AUSVEG, demand for carrots has grown in all major markets. Australia exported over 110,000 tonnes of carrots last year, the majority shipped to Asia and the Middle East.
The Western Australia region accounted for 85% of total carrot exports. The sector can still grow and develop in the country, but labor and freight logistics issues remain a concern.
