The fruit weighed in at 2.519 kg.
A farmer from Sydney has grown a massive 2.519 kg pomegranate, just short of the current world record of 2.60 kg, according to local media.
The fruit came from a vine planted years ago. The grower says the result came down to organic fertilizer and consistency.
Though pomegranates in Australia aren’t widely tracked in national ag stats, the industry is growing. According to AgriFutures, a government-backed organization that funds and supports research, development, and innovation in emerging and niche agricultural industries in Australia, the industry's value is estimated at $10.4 million, with uses ranging from juice to health products.
The grower, however, doesn’t plan to eat the fruit — just to remember it.
