Citrus production and exports are forecast to increase in the 2021/22 season

Moroccan exports are expected to grow by + 25% for oranges and + 8% for mandarins / clementines during this 2021/22 campaign (Photo: yabiladi.com).
The favorable weather conditions and the increase in the harvested area in Morocco mean that the citrus production for the 2021/22 season is estimated at 2.55 million tons, 12% more than in the previous season. Exports of oranges should increase by +25% and those of mandarins / clementines by +8%.
A recent GAIN report by the FAS (Foreign Agricultural Service) issued by the USDA, the United States Department of Agriculture, estimates citrus production in Morocco at 2.55 million tons for the 2021/22 season, that is, 12 % more compared to the 2020/21 campaign.
Oranges: The harvested area should reach 56,500 hectares (55,405 hectares in the previous season) and production should reach 1.15 million tons, that is, 11% more. Exports should reach 120,000 tonnes, that is, 25% more than in the previous season.
.Mandarins / Clementines: The harvested area is expected to reach 58,900 hectares (58,850 hectares in the previous season) and production to reach 1.36 million metric tons, up 13%. Mandarin / clementine exports are expected to reach around 500,000 tonnes, 8% more than in the previous season.
Lemons / limes: The harvested area should reach 3,110 hectares (3,100 hectares in the previous season) and production should reach 45,000 tons, that is, + 2%. Lemon / lime exports are expected to reach the same volume as the previous season (10,000 tonnes).
