Peruvian avocado exports have grown steadily annually (Photo: andina).
From this year, Peru could reach 2nd place in the world ranking of avocado exports. Adex (Asociación de Exportadores) believes that the opening of new markets will make it possible to achieve this objective.
In 2018, Mexico ranked 1st in the ranking of exporting countries, with $2,392 million, i.e. a share of 43%. The Netherlands follows with the ranking with $733.7 million or 13.2% and Peru with $723.1 million or 12%.
Peru recorded a 23% increase in exports of avocados. An increase that has exceeded the performance of other countries, including Spain and Chile which occupied 4th and 5th place in the ranking.
According to Adex, the determining factors for achieving this objective will be the availability of water and the diversification of markets. In 2018 Peru exported its avocados to 33 countries and negotiations are underway to open the markets in Malaysia and the Philippines.
