Tomato prices reach 9-year high
United States

Product shortage has led to a sharp increase in the price of tomatoes in the USA.
The Florida hurricanes and storms in California have hit domestic production, while supplies from Mexico are being affected by pests.
This has led to the price of a case of tomatoes rising to almost $40 recently, up from $12 in September.
The shortage has meant that US wholesalers are turning to Europe for supplies, with tomatoes being flown in from France and Holland to make up for the shortfall.
