Peruvian exports of tropical pineapples are in their initial phase and have great opportunities in international markets such as the US, the Netherlands and Chile.
In 2020, Peruvian exports of pineapples totaled $4.05 million, increasing by 283.2 % compared to the previous year.
Exports of fresh and dried pineapples stood out with an increase of 135.9 %, totaling $ 1.93 million, due to the higher deliveries of organic and conventional dehydrated pineapple.
Similarly, exports of canned pineapples increased by 790.1 %, totaling $2.11 million.
The main recipient of fresh, dried and canned pineapples (89.2 %) was North America. The rest went to Asia (4.4 %) and Europe (3.9 %). The US was the main destination totaling $4 million, 88.1 % of the total, increasing by 561.3% in 2020.
In 2020, 52 % of total exports were concentrated in the Lambayeque region. Junín concentrated 92.8 % of exports of fresh and dried pineapples, while Lambayeque accumulated 52 % of international sales of preserved and prepared pineapples.
Exports of fresh and dried pineapple were directed to 9 markets, starting sales in Canada ($ 45.9 thousand) and South Korea ($ 14.5 thousand). Exports of prepared and discussed pineapples were sent to 9 markets, starting sales in South Korea ($ 152.1 thousand) and Australia ($ 85 thousand).
