Consum has reopened 37 of the 39 supermarkets affected by the dana
Located in the Valencian Community and in the Spanish Levante region, the Consum Cooperative chain has been the most affected by the dana for 6 months.
The store is back in service almost 6 months after the storm, which affected 69 of the Cooperative's stores: 39 Consum supermarkets and 30 Charter convenience stores. So far, the Cooperative has returned to service 37 of the 39 stores affected by the storm. The two establishments that are still pending to return to service will reopen in a few days: they are the stores of Algemesí (Plaza del Mercado) and Aldaia (Avenida Dos de Mayo).
1000 people and €35 million investment
The most affected supermarkets have reopened fully renovated and with more services for customers. More than 1,000 people have been working since last October on Consum's Store Reconstruction Plan. The project has involved intervention on the 39 Consum supermarkets affected by the storm. The works have been carried out on more than 78,000 square meters with an investment of approximately 35 million euros.
Improvements and more services
The Cooperative has taken the opportunity to implement efficiency and sustainability measures in the affected stores. Sections were modernized, services and references were expanded and the walkable space was cleared. In addition, Consum will open another three new stores in towns affected by the hurricane in the coming weeks: in Massanassa, Aldaia and Alaquàs under the Consum banner.
124,000 solidarity bags offered in its 500 stores
Consum joined the campaign of the Confederació de Comerç d'Alacant, Castelló i València (Confecomerç) to support the recovery of stores affected by the dana. The Cooperative distributed more than 124,000 solidarity bags for 1 euro throughout its network of Consum supermarkets. The initiative was implemented in nearly 500 stores located in Valencia, Catalonia, Murcia, Castilla-La Mancha and Andalusia.
