US asparagus growers under pressure

US asparagus growers face a tough 2006 after the closure of Seneca Foods asparagus processing plant in Washington state.
The plant was responsible for processing as much as half of the US's asparagus crop of about 25 million kilos.
Local growers have been under pressure since the US allowed the imports of Peruvian asparagus.
