Belgian exporters report record high stocks.
The past several years have been tough for belgian fruit exporters as Belgium has had an over-production year after year. This over-production has of course led to decreasing prices, which, along with the credit crunch which has lowered the quantities traded, has made it very difficult for exporters to survive. 2010, some belgian exporters report, won't be any different from the past few years. The problems mentionned above (over-production and lack of consumption) have led to increasing stocks, which in turn may lead to yet another drop in price and some more hard times.
Exporters are now hoping for a record-low production next year and an increase in consumption which could help lower stocks and balance out the market.
