Ecuador experiences strong overseas demand for pitahaya, pineapple, and other exotic fruits.
Ecuador’s exports of tropical fruits increased by 38% between January and August 2025 compared with the same period last year, according to local media.
The growth was mainly driven by non-traditional fruits such as pitahaya, pineapple, granadilla, tree tomato, and lulo, which continue to gain recognition in international markets for their quality and nutritional value.
Pitahaya exports rose by about 40%, from USD 128.1 million in early 2024 to USD 179.9 million in the same period of 2025. Officials said the country’s performance strengthens its position as a leading supplier of tropical fruits and highlights expanding opportunities for producers in global markets.
