Nuts and especially pistachios put Iran at the top of the world ranking of producers and exporters of these products.
The demands have varied a lot according to Iranian professionals who are now exporting to 70 countries but the turnover of nut exports is satisfactory.
Nut exports, according to the Iran Trade Promotion Organization, have a turnover of 950 million USD for the first 8 months of the current calendar year.
During this period, the pistachio was the most important export product. Shipments decreased (-22%) in the first 6 months of the current calendar year, but recovered strongly thereafter.
Iran produces about 250,000 tons of pistachios a year, exporting a volume of 150,000 tons, generating a turnover of 1 to 1.2 billion USD.
