One of the world’s oldest global sustainability organizations, the Solidaridad Network, is uniting with GLOBALG.A.P. in order to develop programs and products that leverage the strengths of both collaborators in the face of evolving supply chain challenges worldwide.

The long-term partnership will start with exploring cooperation across Asia and Europe based on the principal values of these two organizations, including responsible farming, capacity building, and supply chain transparency.

The emphasis will be on developing partnerships among all relevant stakeholders in agricultural supply chains worldwide, particularly in reinforcing the role and participation of smallholder farms.

GLOBALG.A.P. and Solidaridad highlight 3 main objectives of their cooperation:

. Popularize the adoption of sustainability practices by producers (particularly smallholders)

. Boost demand from stakeholders (particularly consumers) for products which are sustainable

. Increase the use of transparent farm data to show progress in transforming agriculture towards the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

Dr Shatadru Chattopadhayay, Managing Director, Solidaridad Asia, stated that GLOBALG.A.P. and Solidaridad wish to work together for a future in which farmers and workers enjoy inclusion, prosperity, and the ability to combat climate change. The project will feature the latest technologies like Soli-Trace and offer early access to information while connecting consumers and retailers with the farmers.

Through this partnership, projects will be structured around 4 milestones:

. Support smallholder farming communities by optimizing production systems, (eco)system services, and working conditions;

. Develop and execute solutions for sourcing, transparency and traceability, and a model that enables payments to smallholders for their sustainability activities;

. Utilize new approaches regarding data-driven compliance models for assurance programs;

. Jointly raise funds for identified projects from private and public sector companies.

Kristian Moeller, Managing Director at GLOBALG.A.P, commented that together with Solidaridad they want to drive the transformation towards more environmental and socially sustainable and resilient smallholder communities, which cover 80 percent of farmland in Asia and provide more than 30 percent of the world’s food.
