Ginger and turmeric exports fall in Peru

With a 44% decrease compared to last year, Peruvian exports of ginger and turmeric face challenges in its main markets, while Latin America shows significant growth.
Up to week 34 of this year, Peru has exported 26,480 tons of ginger and turmeric, generating a value of $ 51,604,559, which represents a decrease of 44% compared to the same period last year, according to a Peruvian media.
 
 
 
The main destination of these exports is North America, which absorbs 61% of Peruvian shipments, although it shows a drop of 32% compared to the previous year, with a value of $ 33,100,600. Europe, the second most important market with a 38% share, also experienced a 57% decrease, reaching a value of $ 17,813,546. In contrast, Latin America, with a 2% share, has registered a 106% growth, totaling $ 634,070 in value.
 
 
 
In terms of product type, 84% of exported ginger was organic, albeit down 33% from the previous year, while conventional ginger, which accounted for 16%, experienced a more pronounced drop of 70%.
