Taiwan maintains steady demand for imported fruit, vegetables and nuts.
Taiwan continues to rely on imports to meet demand for fresh produce, including fruit, vegetables and tree nuts, due to limited farmland and strong consumer demand, according to the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS).
Fruit
Fresh fruit remains one of the main U.S. horticultural exports to Taiwan. Apples are the leading product. In 2024, Taiwan imported about 156,000 tonnes of apples, with the United States supplying roughly 63,600 tonnes, equal to a 41% share of total imports. Other key fruits shipped to Taiwan include cherries, grapes, peaches, plums and citrus.
Nuts
Tree nuts are another important category. Almonds, pistachios and walnuts are widely sold through retail and used in snacks and food processing. Demand for these products remains stable throughout the year.
Vegetables
Vegetables are part of Taiwan’s imported produce supply, especially when local production is limited. Imports help maintain steady availability of fresh vegetables in supermarkets and food service.
Market
Taiwan was the eighth-largest market for U.S. agricultural exports in 2024, with total shipments valued at about $3.8 billion. Strong purchasing power and consistent demand continue to support imports of fruit, vegetables and nuts.
