Costa Rican pineapples exported for the first time to China

After a 25-day trip the first cargo of pineapples from Costa Rica arrived at the port of Shanghai, announced CANAPEP (Cámara Nacional de Productores y Exportadores de Piña).
In total, there were 15,000 cartons of fresh pineapple (12 kg each) from several producers in Costa Rica. This first export crowns long months of work with the Chinese authorities and opens the Costa Rican pineapple market one of the most important markets in the world.
China, according to CANAPEP, has increased its imports of pineapples from different countries by about 42% per year over the past 4 years. This augurs for Costa Rica which has 43,000 hectares of pineapple a significant increase in its exports.
