Establishment of purchasing card for Milan market
MD
Sogem, the company that manages the Milan market, and AGO (Association of wholesalers of fruits vegetables) are planning to introduce a payment card for purchases.
As in the fish sector, which already operates the system, buyers must have a card to buy. They can either recharge the card with the amount they desire (such as a phone card) and the amount of their purchases will be deducted, which is aimed more at smaller buyers, or the card will be linked to a bank account and the sum of purchases will be charged directly .
Wholesalers hope to avoid bad checks but also come into line with the new law that no longer accepts cash payments for purchases in excess of €1000. This new law is controversial for fruit vegetables. In every market in northern Italian buyers from neighboring countries (France, Germany, Austria and Slovenia) come to shop and pay cash. 1000 euros is quickly reached.
