Rising bell pepper prices in Mexico spark concern
VU
High costs surprise consumers and drive up food basket expenses despite the vegetable's non-essential role in local cuisine.
In recent weeks, the price of bell peppers has risen significantly in Mexico.
According to local media, in cities like Piedras Negras, green bell peppers are priced between 83.90 and 91.90 pesos per kilogram (approximately $4.16 to $4.55), while yellow and red varieties can reach up to 100 pesos per kilogram (about $4.95).
The price hike in bell peppers has surprised regular consumers and increased the cost of the basic food basket for those who include this vegetable in their diet, despite it not being essential in Mexican cuisine.
