The re-registration for the fungal biocontrol product 'Noli' in Israel

Koppert Biological Systems, producer of sustainable cultivation solutions for food crops and ornamental plants, and Lidorr Elements, one of Israel's leading experts for crop-protection, joined forces to restore the registration for the fungal biocontrol product “Noli” in Israel.

Noli used to control harmful plant diseases such as Botrytis and Monilinia, which are both devastating pathogens that can cause decay in a broad range of host plants during pre and postharvest handling. The product is known for its effective biocontrol qualities and works by rapidly colonizing of the fruit or blossom surfaces. Minor injuries to fruit and blossom are potential infection sites for the development of the pathogenic fungi mentioned above. The nutrients like sugars on fruit are ideal sources of feeding for Botrytis and Monilinia. Noli uses the same nutrients as pathogens, but develops faster and outcompetes the pathogens for both space and food.

The product was previously marketed under the name "Shemer", but disappeared from the Israeli market after the license agreement expired. Koppert has acquired the product and renamed it "Noli". Now, thanks to the joint efforts of the companies, the first commercial shipment is scheduled for the first quarter of 2021.

According to Pieter Oosters, Product Manager at Koppert, the re-registration of this product is a big step forward and great news for Israeli farmers. It does not only provide many opportunities in Israel itself, but also opens the way for applications on other crops and registration in other countries. Currently, Koppert exploring the use of Noli as a post-harvest application.
