Ivory Coast is the first producer of mangoes in Africa.
First producer of mangoes in African country, Ivory Coast values badly its production.
Ivory Coast had an annual production of 100.000 tons. Production zones are in the North of the country on about 20.000 hectares.
"Ivory Coast is the first producer of mangoes in Africa, essentially intended for the export, but it only exports 10 % of this production. The rest is intended for the local market, in particular for Abidjan, and for the waste ", explains an expert of the sector, Mr. Coulibaly Daniel.
Somewhere else, in the other producing countries as Mali and Burkina Faso, the priority is granted to the transformation of the mango in diverse by-products to limit the deterioration of the productions and bring an added value for the producers.
So the Ivory Coast sector of the mango has to take example on the producing countries of western Africa and begin to grant a bigger attention on the possibilities of transformation of the mango for a better valuation.
