The crisis seems far away in China as port traffic in the country shows a steady increase.
Container traffic has increased by 12.6% since the beginning of the year and reached 106.8 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) over 8 months. Domestic ports handled dry bulk cargo of 770 million tons between January and August, an 11.2 percent increase year on year, the Ministry of Transport said in a statement on its website yesterday.
The release of the Ministry of Transport revealed that the value of imports grew by 30.2% in August and exports 24.5%.
Shanghai is always the busiest port in the country for the month of August, 61 million tons of cargo and 2.8 million TEUs. Shanghai, which surpassed Singapore to become the world's largest container port last year, may handle 30 million TEUs this year, officials said earlier.
