In Switzerland, the apple and pear harvest will be lower than last year

In Switzerland, apple and pear growers started the harvest which came earlier than usual, due to the good weather conditions, and will last until the end of October.
According to FUS (Fruit-Union Switzerland), the apple harvest should amount to 114,351 tonnes, or around -5% compared to 2021, and the pear harvest to 18,493 tonnes, or -1% compared to 2021.
Apples. The expected quantities for the 3 most cultivated varieties in the country are 28,545 tonnes for Gala, 13,629 tonnes for Golden Delicious and 11,647 tonnes for Braeburn.
Pears. The expected quantities, for the 3 most cultivated varieties in the country, are 1,681 tonnes for Beurré Bosc, 4,530 tonnes for Conference, 3,091 tonnes for Williams.
Depending on the different regions and varieties, the yield per hectare differs: ranging from 17.9 tonnes to 42.2 tonnes for apples and from 18.7 tonnes to 29.1 tonnes for pears.
