Germany imports less fresh fruit and vegetables

The volumes imported by Germany shows a downward trend for several suppling countries (Netherlands, Spain, Italy, Poland) and an increase for tomatoes from Morocco.
According to a German media, imports of fresh fruit and vegetables in September 2022, as in the previous 8 months, showed a decrease compared to the same month of the previous year. In September 2021 Germany had imported 625,000 tonnes of fresh fruit and vegetables but only 577,000 tonnes in September 2022.
The volume imported from the Netherlands decreased to 107,000 tonnes in September 2022 (135,000 tonnes in September 2021). Volumes from Spain, Italy, Poland, Belgium, France and Turkey also show a decline.
On the contrary, the volume imported from Morocco recorded a strong increase, with during the first 9 months of 2022 a volume of 50,000 tonnes of tomatoes (36,000 tonnes over the same period of 2021).
In total, the imported volumes of tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers fell like the imported volumes of bananas which in the first 9 months reached only 0.99 million tons (1.08 million tons for the same period of 2021) .
