Tensions in the stone fruit sector

The current campaign in three countries (Spain, France, Italy) is characterized by low prices.

The  Spanish-French-Italian working group, gathering professionals of nectarines-peaches from 3 countries, met by videoconference to request crisis management measures across the EU.

Representatives of producers found that the current campaign is characterized by very low prices and ask for immediate action. The Italian delegation stressed that the crisis also affects Greece, the 4th largest producer of stone fruit in the EU, which wants to join these claims.

The group will meet again this weekend in order to analyze the evolution of the campaign and the responses. The joint actions of the group had repeatedly allowed an improvement of the withdrawal price for peaches and nectarines.
