Sweet potato seedlings
A new development brings a new method of growing sweet potatoes that will be exposed for the first time at the annual international agricultural exhibition Agro Mashov 19 that will take place in Tel Aviv, January 14-15, 2009.
The seedlings have been developed by the "Tiv Shtil" nursery in co-operation with Mr. Rafi Rodman, an organic agriculture instructor from the Israel Bio-Organic Agriculture Association (IBOAA) with the aim of replacing the traditional and ungainly method used all over the world today- the cutting system. (Cutting a piece of the plant and re-planting it to create a genetically identical plant)
The seedlings have been developed for the last 3 years and planted successfully in several commercial fields. The use of seedlings dramatically shortens the period of growth by almost a full month, therefore enabling a substantial reduction in time and possible increase of output.
Furthermore, the seedling save up to 80% of the manpower needed for the cutting system, and allow a reduction of the use of precious water we al need so dearly these days. The shortening of the process by a full month evidently cuts down the watering time required for such plants, what's more- the seedlings initially need much less water to ensure their successful acceptance.
Sweet Potato seedlings have 100% acceptance rate as oppose to a much lower percent with the cutting system - greatly increasing the volume of each yield, a unified fruit produce and round bulbs without ridges.
The seedlings will be presented at the Innovation Booth at the Agro Mashov exhibition, along side many other new and unique innovations from the world of fruit, vegetables, plants etc.
Also in the expo- the VFF exhibition (Vegetable, Fruit & Flower) will offer a variety of fresh produce, organic output, shipping and packing solutions, Growers, buyers and delegations arriving from all over the world, an international symposium for fresh produce marketing, Livestock convention and much more.
