Onion and potato prices drop in Colombia as most groceries hold steady

Most staples remain stable, while fruits such as feijoa and Oneco mandarin increase.
Grocery bills in Colombia show notable drops in a few staple items this week. White bulb onion has seen the largest decrease, dropping by 600 COP per kilo — from 2,200 COP to 1,600 COP (about US $0.38 to US $0.38, roughly a $0.06 saving per kilo). Pastusa potato also fell by 100 COP to 900 COP/kg (US $0.22, ~US $0.24).
According to Corabastos weekly data covering July 28 to August 4, 2025, most items in Colombia’s basic food basket will keep steady prices. Tomato chonto, Hass avocado, guava, and beans remain unchanged.
Outside the basic basket, price shifts are mixed:
-Hartón plantain rose by 682 COP to 3,182 COP (from ~US $0.71 to US $0.77).
-Washed criolla potato increased by 200 COP to 3,000 COP (~US $0.72).
-Yuca Armenia and tocarre potato remained at 3,333 COP and 3,000 COP (~US $0.80 and US $0.72 respectively).
In the fruits and vegetables category:
-Feijoa surged by 3,000 COP to 8,000 COP (~US $1.92).
-Oneco mandarin increased by 500 COP to 3,500 COP (~US $0.84).
-Strawberries dropped 2,000 COP to 8,000 COP (~US $1.92).
-Swiss chard fell by 500 COP to 2,500 COP (~US $0.60).
-Red bulb onion decreased by 800 COP to 2,400 COP (~US $0.58).
