Sonora state produces 90% of dates that Mexico consumes

The valley of Mexicali and San Luis Río Colorado (Sonora, Mexico) produces 90% of the dates that Mexico consumes. For this reason, events, such as the Date Route Expo, are held there to further promote the development of this sector.

 

According to Marco Antonio Chavira, organizer of this event, there are currently more than 1,200 date producers in this valley area and in the neighboring state, both of which supply all of Mexico. In the next few years, the number of producers is projected to increase by 1.000 more.

 

He specified that 90 percent of the dates grown in these fields are sold in Mexico and, above all, are exported to Europe and the Middle East.
