Green light of the European Commission to resume potato imports from Egypt, after the ban imposed at the end of August.
The European Commission allowed Egypt to resume exports of potatoes to the EU for the 2009/10 season, after the trade flows were interrupted on the 26th of August 2009, when part of the products were found to be affected by brown rot.
Egypt has sanctioned the responsible companies for failing to meet the quality standards imposed by the EU, with the stoppage of exports for the next three marketing seasons.
Productive areas contaminated with brown rot (Ralstonia solanacearum or Pseudomonas solanacearum) would not in any case t obtain new permits for export.
