Myanmar avocado farmers eye Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand

Supported by the Myanmar Avocado Producer and Exporter Association (MAVO) and the Department of Agriculture, growers are preparing to meet international standards.
Myanmar avocado exports will mainly target Singapore and Thailand this season, according to the Myanmar Avocado Producer and Exporter Association (MAVO).
The September–December harvest is plentiful, covering local demand and leaving enough for exports. Key varieties include Hass, Buccaneer, and Amaya. Around 20,000 acres are planted with Hass alone, and output — 3,000 tonnes last year — is expected to rise this year.
MAVO and the Agriculture Department are working to gain approval from China’s customs authority (GACC) for future shipments. Farmers are being trained on inspection rules and pest testing to meet China’s standards.
MAVO has also set up a farmer-owned public company to expand exports to Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand, while supporting growers with inputs like fertilisers and pesticides. Officials have noted strong potential in China, India, Russia, and Middle Eastern markets, provided quality standards are met.
