Industry leaders discuss market outlook, events and continued growth in bilateral fruit trade.
Chile’s fruit export sector has reinforced its relationship with Chinese authorities following a recent meeting between industry representatives and the Chinese diplomatic mission in Santiago.
According to Frutas de Chile, the organisation’s president, Iván Marambio, and Claudia Soler met with Niu Qingbao to review key issues affecting bilateral cooperation and ongoing fresh fruit trade.
During the discussions, participants examined the performance of Chilean fresh fruit exports to China, one of the most significant markets for the sector, and exchanged information on upcoming government, promotional and industry events in China. Maintaining regular dialogue with destination markets was highlighted as a priority to support trade continuity and ensure consistent product quality for consumers.
Trade data presented at the meeting showed the scale of the relationship. In the 2024-25 season, Chile exported more than 770,000 tonnes of fresh fruit to China, representing a 33% increase compared with the previous season.
Cherries accounted for the majority of shipments, representing 74% of total export volume, followed by:
· plums — 11%
· nectarines — 7%
· table grapes — 5%
· avocados, apples and other fruits — less than 2% each
For exporters and supply planners, the figures confirm China’s continued role as the dominant destination for Chilean fruit, particularly cherries, and underline the importance of sustained institutional cooperation to manage growing volumes and market access conditions.
