Puerto Valparaíso advances digital coordination to maintain flow during peak fruit season

System coordination helped manage truck arrivals during the busiest export weeks.
Chile’s main export gateway improved logistics performance during the latest fruit campaign as digital coordination tools helped manage truck arrivals and reduce congestion at critical points in the supply chain.
According to the port authority Empresa Portuaria Valparaíso, operational planning and digital systems were key to maintaining fluid access to terminals during the busiest weeks of the fruit season, when shipment volumes traditionally peak.
The logistics extension zone (ZEAL) played a central role in this process. During the high season, the system coordinated the arrival and processing of tens of thousands of trucks carrying export cargo, helping maintain steady entry flows and reducing waiting times at the port. Authorities reported that the majority of vehicles completed their procedures in less than two hours, demonstrating improved efficiency compared with previous campaigns.
Digitalisation has been gradually integrated into daily port operations through coordinated scheduling, real-time monitoring and information sharing between terminals, transport companies and public agencies. This approach allows operators to anticipate peak demand, organise truck arrivals in advance and avoid bottlenecks during intensive export periods.
For the fruit export sector, the results highlight the growing importance of logistics planning as shipment volumes continue to expand. Reliable coordination at ports such as Puerto Valparaíso is increasingly seen as essential to ensuring smooth export flows, protecting product quality and maintaining delivery schedules during the most demanding weeks of the season.
