The pineapple harvest is overabundant this year

In Taiwan, the Kaohsiung region in the south of the country is experiencing an exceptional pineapple harvest this year. Exports are expected to increase as well as processing operations, such as canned pineapple.
The abundance is such that farmers in the region have asked the government for additional aid for fruit processing. Kaoshiung's pineapple exports are expected to increase by 20 percent from last year, according to the Agricultural Bureau, and regional authorities are looking for sales and distribution channels.
But this abundant harvest leads to a drop in prices on the market where the fruits are showing prices 50% lower than last year's prices.
