French production of peaches and apricots is forecast down for this 2018 campaign.
According to the latest forecasts, production volumes for peaches and apricots will decrease for this 2018 season compared to 2017.
AGRESTE, according to its newsletter 'Conjonctures' announces that according to estimates as of May 1, 2018, the production of peaches would decline by 10%, compared to that of 2017, being 9% below the five-year average. Although a delay in vegetation (10-15 days) is noted in several areas, the provisional estimate of peach and nectarine production is 200 000 tonnes. That is a volume 10% lower than last year and 9% below the 2013-2017 average.
For apricot production, according to estimates made by the same date of May 1, 2018, the volume for the 2018 crop year would reach 136,800 tonnes. That's a 14% decline in production compared to the 2017 harvest and 8% below the 2013-2017 average. Frost and bad weather have strongly affected the flowering of early varieties and the beginning of the marketing year is expected to be in deficit.
