In Brazil, the estimated orange harvest for 2024/25 has been revised. The total projected volume represents a decrease of 7.1% compared to the initial estimate and a decrease of 29.8% compared to the previous harvest.

Brazil's 2024/25 orange crop forecast has been revised, indicating a 7.1% decrease from the initial estimate and a 29.8% decline compared to the previous harvest.

According to Fundecitrus, the new estimate for the 2024-2025 orange crop in the São Paulo and southwestern Minas Gerais citrus belt is 215.78 million boxes of 40.8 kg. This represents a reduction of 16.60 million boxes, or a 7.1% decrease from the initial estimate.

This new estimate of 215.78 million boxes of 40.8 kg marks a 29.8% decrease compared to the previous harvest, which yielded 307.22 million boxes.

The reduction in harvest is attributed to smaller fruit size, a direct consequence of hot and dry weather. The unfavorable weather conditions, including rainfall deficits of up to 54% below average, coupled with high temperatures – 3°C to 4°C above the 1990-2020 average – exacerbated the impact of the drought and accelerated fruit maturation.

The next update is scheduled for December 10th.
