Canned tomatoes for the people of Mauritius after the devastation of a cyclone and ToMV virus.
Tomato prices soar in Mauritius, up to 70 rupees ( € 1.86 ) per kilo.
The passage of intense hurricane " Bansi " has damaged many crops including tomatoes. Some tomatoes plantations were already affected by the virus " Tomato Mosaic " ( ToMV ) which reduced production by about 50%.
The combined effects of the cyclone and the virus have dramatically dropped the local tomato production. Faced with soaring prices , consumers are turning to canned tomatoes .
