In the Asia / Pacific region, Australia is already a major player in high-tech agriculture that optimizes crop productivity and thus increases export volumes.
Crops under greenhouses to protect themselves from the elements, temperature, humidity, water quality, acidity control, ultra-precise fertilizer distribution, all these combined technologies ensure record productivity. Progress is such that a doubling of production is considered normal. Australian professionals using these techniques have seen production increase up to 10 times for the cultivation of tomatoes and other vegetables.
Currently, Australian fruit and vegetable exports have a turnover of about AUD 4 billion (€ 2.6 billion). If these technologies were extended, the sector could envisage reaching AUD 30 billion (19.5 billion euros) in exports over the next 25 years.
