In the state of Ceara in Brazil, professionals in the melon sector estimate that exports could increase by 20% to Europe.
Indeed, because of weather events in Spain, the largest producer of melons in Europe, supply will be lower. This will be an opportunity for Brazilian products and especially for those in the state of Ceara.
Local professionals estimate that exports could grow by 15 to 20% to European markets. For this campaign the state of Ceara has already exported 17,100 tonnes of fresh melons, 90% of which were shipped to Europe, where the main buyers were the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and Spain.
Harvesting began in August, exports began in September and is expected to continue through January.
