The flavor of tomatoes improved
FJ
For American scientists tomatoes grown in hydroponic greenhouses will be as tasty as those grown in the open air.
At the University of Arizona, CEAC (Controlled Environment Agriculture Center) department is working on greenhouse crops. Scientists believe that these new varieties already have more taste and the methods applied can still be improved.
For these researchers, the good taste of a tomato is a complex combination of sugars and acids. The culture, nutrients, temperature and humidity control also play a role. Conditions in greenhouses, completely controllable, can reproduce the ideal conditions for perfect tomatoes.
Scientists are confident for future varieties and for progress to be made in the methods applied. Production less hazardous than in the field, greenhouse tomatoes have flooded the market. Beautiful appearance, fresh all year round, these tomatoes meet the needs of consumers: firm tomatoes that can be kept long.
