Expected decline in production despite stable surfaces
FJ
The decrease is attribuable to the deacrease of yields and more precisely to a lower weight per head compared to that of the previous campaign.
According to the report of Agreste, French production of cauliflower 2013-2014 will continue its downward trend. Surfaces (19 200 hectares) are stable compared to 2012-2013 but down by 4% compared to the average of the last 5 campaigns.
The report forecasts a production of 316,000 tons (- 8%). This decrease is attributable to a lower yield, consecutive to a weight per head (1.9 kg) lower than the previous campaign (1.951 kg), record campaign since 2000. The average weight is however higher than the five year average (1.840 kg) and in significant increase compared to the average production from 2000 to 2010 which was 1.720 kg.
