Russians believe they can increase the importation of bananas from the Philippines. The two countries are also members of the Asia-Pacific region.
Trade between the two countries is steadily increasing and could grow more.
The Russian ambassador to Manila said that trade, up 15% in 2011, reached 1.64 billion USD. This could be further developed with the export of bananas from the Philippines. Russia buys bananas from Ecuador and Central America, but
that these countries are far away.
According to the ambassador, Russia and the Philippines have a role to play in the Asia-Pacific region and may contribute to its growth and prosperity.
Vladivostok, the easternmost city of Russia, will host the meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation in September.
