Castilla -La Mancha , a major region for the production of onions

Search for new export markets and 2nd " Onion Day " which has just been held in Bolaños de Calatrava (Ciudad Real) .

The Castilla- La Mancha region is No. 1 in Spain with more than half of the national production, nearly 60.4 % or 707,000 tons per year. "Onion Day" brought together industry professionals around exhibitions and technical meetings, focusing on the region of Castilla -La Mancha , head of the national and European agency in the production and marketing of onions.

The total Spanish onion exports in 2013 reached 287,357 tonnes. The first two markets are the UK and Germany in the EU. Spain exports only 22,171 tons to countries outside the EU.

FEPEX brought together stakeholders to assess the potential for additional exports. The EU market is saturated due to increased production in almost all major countries. Market potential in non-European countries, mainly in West Africa and Latin America , was analyzed as positive. Various promotional activities (trade missions , participation in exhibitions , invitations buyers) will be organized.
