Remarkable growth (+ 43%) in pomegranate crops, which led to an expansion of exports.
Kandahar province in Afghanistan recorded a 43% increase in pomegranate crops and managed to export 1,655 tons of grenades to Pakistan and India last year, industry professionals are hoping to open new markets for pomegranates.
Kandahar's Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ACCI) said that of the 1,655 tons of pomegranates exported last year, Pakistan received 1,140 tons and India 515 tons. The authorities will try to send samples of pomegranates to other countries in the attempt to open up new markets.
In Kapisa province (northeast of Kabul), farmers welcomed the progress made over the past year. Increased production, yields and also prices. Some have almost doubled sales prices for fruits exported to Pakistan.
