The Vietnamese media cite information from the Ministry of Industry and Trade, which itself uses data from the Chinese Customs service: during the first 9 months of 2022 on the Chinese market, the Philippines was the 1st supplier of bananas and Vietnam the 2nd.
Vietnamese banana exports to the Chinese market in the first 9 months of 2022 reached USD 213 million, or +49.2% compared to the same period in 2021.
This performance can be explained by the sharp decline in Chinese banana production, hit by Panama disease, which had the effect of stimulating imports, particularly those from Vietnam.
The recent protocol signed between China and Vietnam will further boost Vietnamese banana exports to the Chinese market.
In 2020 Vietnam exported 430,000 tons of bananas to China, then 574,000 tons in 2021 and 591,000 tons in the first 9 months of 2022.
