This new apple could be available on the market next year
A new apple staying "crispy" for 14 days in a fruit bowl, and even for months if kept in a fridge has been developed by Australian scientists after 20 years of research.
Its current name is “RS103-130” and the credit for its creation goes to the Queensland government experts in Australia. It could be available on the market as early as next year, if the state government finds the commercial supply partner it’s looking for, according to Tim Mulherin, Primary Industries Minister himself.
Deep red color and sweetness of taste characterizes this new variety of apple; additionally, preliminary tests rated it highest on taste as compared to the 5 other varieties.
It is disease-resistant, thus requiring few or no fungicides: this is a great advantage for growers who usually try to use few or no fungicides.
UK’s major papers such as The Independent and The Telegraph reported the news, as well as the technical press.
