How nutrition education can be fun
The Edeka Foundation reaches primary school children across Germany.
How do children experience the diversity of our food? How do they make informed choices about diet and exercise? And how can they learn to appreciate food and take responsibility for themselves and their environment? The Edeka Foundation provides answers to these questions through its primary school project ‘Move more – eat better’, which will be run again in primary schools during the 2026/27 school year. By February 2027, the project will have reached around 5,500 pupils in Years 3 and 4 across the country.
‘Move more – eat better’
The importance of nutrition education in schools is increasingly being emphasised. In early 2026, the World Health Organisation (WHO) published new guidelines on creating a supportive nutritional environment in schools. The Edeka Foundation has been championing this form of nutrition education for many years, adopting a practical approach to knowledge transfer: ‘Move more – eat better’ aims to raise children’s awareness of a balanced diet, sufficient exercise and responsible behavior at an early age, and to help them apply what they have learnt to everyday family life. Around 115 Edeka staff members act as mentors during the project days.
