PE
India is a very new producer and importer for fresh blueberries but show tremendous potential.
India produces today around 700 or 800 tons of fresh blueberries, its imports are also approximately 600 tons, mainly by air. Its market growth is positive but not exponential for the moment, estimated around 15% more for 2024. Chile, Peru, US, Zimbabwe are the main origin so far, also The Netherlands as distributor. Poland recently signed new protocol and may soon be a new supplier. Average market price has been between 11 and 18 US dollars for a 1,5kg box for imported blueberries between July untill January or February, when there is no domestic production. IG International (Mombay), DJ Export (Delhi) are the 2 main importers.
Up to 3000 tons in 3 years of domestic production
India produces mainly during the months of March, April and May in the provinces of Rourkee (Uttarakhand), Uttaranchal (Dehradun), Maarastrah (state of Mumbai), Madhya Pradesh (Madh), also in Nilgiri Hills. India main produce between 2 and 3,000 tons of blueberries within 3 years, according to the latest plantation. All the major blueberries breeders and integrated marketing groups recently established or are looking to do so, like Sekoya, Planasa, Mountain Blue. The successful venture between Hortifrut and IG Berries in 2022 is a good example.
