The Italian and Chinese governments have signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Promoting the Construction of  the"Belt and Road" or "New Silk Road" initiative. Nearly 29 contracts or memoranda of understanding have been signed, including investment projects in the ports of Genoa and Trieste.

These agreements were signed in the presence of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte. These agreements cover 5 to 7 billion euros, with a real potential of 20 billion euros according to the Italian media, in many sectors (telecommunications, space, tourism, transport ...).

In addition to the opening of the Chinese market for Italian oranges that will be exported by air to China, these agreements provide for a vast program of Chinese investments.

In this investment program projects for the ports of Trieste and Genoa, for he modernization of the facilities and the construction of a new cargo terminal. These 2 ports can be ideal access doors to all Europe. Genoa to the west is well connected to France and Spain, and Trieste to the east is well connected to Central Europe.
