More geothermal greenhouses in Turkey
MLK
Farmers in this region use geothermal energy to heat their greenhouses since 2000 on an area of ??about 500 hectares and plan to increase the surface area of ??heated greenhouses in this way to 2000 hectares. The goal for 2013 is to reach 7000 hectares. For this, approximately 60 new artesian wells will be dug in 2016 and thus increasing especially tomato production but also many vegetables and ornamental flowers, they contribute to the economic development of this region.
Currently, approximately 15 000 tons of fresh products, which are exported, are produced in the greenhouses. Work is being done to sell these products to the Gulf countries under one brand.
The products obtained are of high quality, do not contain hormones, and are pollinated by bees.
Compared with other production areas in Turkey, Urfa has advantages such as geothermal energy, a longer light day and flat terrain, conditions that promote greenhouse production
