Peru develops 7 technical norms for granadilla and yacón

Standardisation is expected to contribute to rural development by improving incomes and strengthening Peru’s agro-export capacity in strategic crops.
To boost competitiveness and sustainability in granadilla and yacón farming, Peru's National Institute for Quality (Inacal) held a free technical standards event on July 1 in Huánuco. The session aimed to raise awareness about Peruvian Technical Standards (NTP) that support safety, quality, and good practices across the production chain.
The event was hosted at the INDECOPI regional office and included participation from the CITE Agroindustrial UT Ambo and technical committees for both crops. Local producers, entrepreneurs, and small businesses attended to better understand how standards can strengthen their operations.
Inacal introduced the draft standard “PNTP 012.001:2025. Granadilla. Good Agricultural Practices. 2nd Edition,” and opened it to public feedback. Meetings were also planned with Huánuco’s regional government to coordinate joint quality promotion strategies.
Currently, Inacal has developed three technical standards for yacón, covering syrup specifications, fresh root requirements, and dried leaf standards. For granadilla, there are four standards addressing both agricultural and post-harvest practices, as well as fruit quality for fresh and industrial use.
These guidelines aim to improve consistency, reduce post-harvest losses, and enhance product presentation. By applying them, producers can increase access to export markets.
